Frequently asked questions
How many people can an Arcadia EdPod accommodate?
This will depend on the age of the occupants and the use of the pod. As an example, an Arcadia EdPod will comfortable seat up to 8 adults round a board table.
We are very short of space at our school. Where could we put an Arcadia EdPod?
One of the attractions of the Arcadia pod is that with its integral steel frame it does not require formal foundations. It can sit in areas otherwise unusable - under trees, sloping or rough ground. It can also be craned in to inner courtyards. If necessary, a site survey can be carried out to help assess the best location.
What costs are involved?
In addition to the cost of the selected Arcadia Edpods(s) and delivery, there are two other costs involved.
Site preparation (typically) £200 but nil if going on to a hard standing
Electrical connection (typically) £250
These figures are purely indicative and would be subject to quotations from your contractors.
Do Arcadia EdPods need planning permission?
Generally, Arcadia EdPods will not require planning permission within a school environment. They are not permanent structures, are within standard accepted dimensions and their usage is for educational purposes.
What colour are the EdPods?
EdPods are painted whichever colour you choose. Simply decide on a colour and give us the RAL number.
Do Arcadia EdPods comply with Building Regulations?
Arcadia Pods are outwith the scope of Building Regulations as they have a floor area less than 15 m2 (below which Building Regulations do not apply). They are also constructed to meet all current regulatory requirements.
What about electrical connection?
All EdPods are fitted with an electrical consumer unit and are independently tested to 18th Edition. A qualified electrician will be required by the school to connect an armoured cable to a mains supply in the school and to wire a female socket on to the cable. By doing this the EdPod can be plugged in and connected up as soon as it is installed on site. This enables us to confirm everything is working and to demonstrate how to operate the Pod Control system. The Edpod will be prewired for data and connection made via a simple external junction box.
How are Arcadia EdPods delivered?
We will liaise with you and make all arrangements for the delivery and installation of your EdPod. We deliver by flat bed lorry and install using the lorry-mounted or standard crane.
Can you deliver outside school hours?
This can be arranged but may result in higher delivery costs. We find that installation is generally quite quick and locking down that area of the school is a solution. The other option is when there are school holidays on.
